Saudi Arabia to expand duty free to new channels, say reports

SAUDI ARABIA. New proposals could see duty free in Saudi Arabia extended beyond airports to land borders, sea ports, ships and other channels, according to Saudi Gazette and Arab News, citing Tax and Customs Authority Zakat.

Authorities also want to extend the number of products that can be sold in duty free stores, said the reports, with changes to how licences are awarded also on the agenda. Products manufactured in the Kingdom will also get preferential treatment under the proposed new regulations.

The proposals are subject to public consultation until 12 August.
